Gemini App Now Lets Anyone Edit Files in Chat

Google's Gemini app can now generate, preview and edit documents, PDFs, spreadsheets and slides directly in a chat, for every user, starting October 29.

Google announced on October 29, 2026, that the Gemini app can now generate, preview and edit documents, PDFs, presentations and spreadsheets without leaving a chat. The capability is live immediately for every user, in every language where Gemini is offered — including Thai — with no signup or upgrade required.

From a Chat to an Editable File

Google says a person can ask Gemini to create a file, expand it to full screen to type edits, highlight text to ask a question about it, or ask Gemini to refine the whole thing. Its own example: upload a photo of handwritten notes, turn it into a PDF, then edit sections or ask follow-ups — all in the same chat.

Where It Works, and Where It Doesn’t Yet

PDF preview and editing works on both the Gemini web and mobile apps. Every other format Google names — Docs, Sheets, slide decks, Markdown, TXT and code — is editable on the web only, not yet on mobile. Google states no plan restriction, country limit or expiry date: it applies, in its own words, to “all users in all languages where Gemini app is available.”

This follows Google’s small-business tools inside the Gemini app two weeks earlier, and sits apart from Gemini 4 Argon, the flagship model Google kept behind its paid plans.

What a Thai Shop Can Try This Week

  • Draft a price list, quotation or order form as a PDF or spreadsheet inside Gemini, then edit it live instead of switching to Word, Excel or Canva.
  • On mobile, photograph a handwritten stock count or invoice and ask Gemini to turn it into an editable spreadsheet — PDF generation and mobile editing both work today.
  • Before paying for a separate document tool, test whether Gemini’s free editing already covers what your team needs.
  • A general assistant like Gemini can format a document, but it still doesn’t know your shop’s own prices or policies — the gap a support AI trained on the business’s own knowledge base, like 1CS’s AI Agents, is built to close instead.
