Meta Kills Its Facebook and Instagram Shop Order API

Meta's Commerce Order Management API stopped working on every version on October 27, as its own changelog warned, with no replacement offered.

Meta’s own Graph API changelog confirms that on October 27, 2026, the Commerce Order Management API — which handled orders placed through native checkout on a Facebook or Instagram Shop — stopped working on every version, with Meta stating plainly that “no replacement API is available.” The same date also stripped the Messenger Stories ad placement everywhere.

What Was Removed

Meta’s changelog lists 47 endpoints that went dark — the back end for orders placed through checkout directly on a Facebook or Instagram Shop, not orders routed to a linked online store or closed over chat. Meta says the “checkout directly on Facebook and Instagram” feature “has been fully sunset,” and had already told developers to “stop calling these endpoints.” Staying on an older API version bought no extra time: every version lost these endpoints on the same date.

An Ad Placement That Disappeared Without a Warning

Separately, Meta’s Marketing API dropped the Messenger Stories placement from messenger_positions on every version from October 27, with “no dedicated error returned” — a manual placement setup simply stopped serving to that spot. Ads Manager’s interface and Advantage+ Placements weren’t affected; only ad sets built through direct API calls, bulk-editing tools or agency scripts were at risk.

What to Check Now

  • Ask your developer or e-commerce agency whether your Facebook or Instagram Shop took orders through native on-platform checkout, rather than linking to your own store or closing sales in chat — if it did, that order sync has stopped for good, with nothing to switch to.
  • If an ad tool or agency script manages your Messenger ads rather than Ads Manager directly, check now whether “Stories” has quietly dropped from your placement list since October 27.
  • This doesn’t touch your Messenger inbox, WhatsApp or chat-based ordering — only Shops’ native checkout orders and manually configured ad placements.

Anyone who tracked LINE’s own Chat Ads API shutdown last month, or WhatsApp’s new marketing-message pricing this one, should read this the same way: every major chat platform is retiring old API surfaces this quarter.
