Facebook and Instagram Shop Checkout Ends October 27

Meta's changelog confirms native Shop checkout stops for good on October 27 with no replacement — move order-taking into chat before then.

Meta’s own Graph API changelog confirms that checkout built directly into a Facebook or Instagram Shop stops working for good on October 27, 2026, with no replacement API offered. That shutdown only touches native on-platform checkout — Meta’s wording never mentions orders closed in chat, which is exactly where a seller who loses it should move next.

What Meta’s changelog actually says

The changelog for Graph API v26.0 states plainly that “checkout directly on Facebook and Instagram for Shops has been sunset,” and tells developers to “stop calling these endpoints.” Calls on v26.0 and later were already blocked from July 29, 2026; from October 27, the affected endpoints are “removed from all remaining versions” — so staying on an older API version buys no extra time. Meta adds one more line that matters more than the date: “No replacement API is available.” There’s no migration path from Meta’s side, only a feature that ends (Graph API changelog, version 26.0).

Who this actually affects

Meta’s own description names the feature precisely: “checkout directly on Facebook and Instagram,” meaning a customer who tapped “Buy Now” and paid without ever leaving the Shop tab. If that’s how your Shop takes orders, that path stops working tomorrow with nothing to switch to. If you already send customers a payment link or a bill in chat — or your Shop only links out to your own website — this specific shutdown doesn’t touch you, because that order never ran through the checkout API in the first place. If your Shop catalog does both at once in different places, today is the day to check which path a given sale actually used, not after a customer’s payment goes nowhere.

Set up in 1CS

Moving order-taking fully into chat means turning on Commerce (ธุรกิจ > ขายสินค้า — Business > Sell products) and switching on “เปิดใช้งานตะกร้าสินค้า” (enable the shopping cart). Add each item to the catalog with its price, SKU and at least one photo, then open ธุรกิจ > ข้อมูลร้าน (Business info), go to the Payment & Delivery tab, and set a delivery fee (0 if you ship free) and at least one payment account — a bill can’t be sent without both. From there, pick how much AI should handle: by default the team sends every bill by hand while AI only quotes prices from the catalog; turning on “Let AI manage the cart” lets AI build the cart and total from the conversation while a person still sends the bill; turning on “Let AI close the sale” on top of that lets AI send the bill itself once the customer confirms. To send a bill yourself, open the Bill tab in the conversation’s side panel, check the items and delivery fee, then click ส่งบิลเข้าแชท (“send bill into chat”) — the customer gets a link in the same conversation to fill in their address and confirm payment without leaving it. The Thai help center walks through every screen in ขายและออกบิลในแชต (Thai only).

Something to copy

Post this once, pinned to your Facebook or Instagram Shop, so customers don’t tap a “Buy Now” button that no longer completes — our suggested wording, adjust the links and tone to your shop:

Hi everyone! Our in-app Shop checkout button isn’t completing orders anymore — please message this Page to order instead. Send us [product name] and we’ll confirm the price and delivery, then send you a secure payment link right here in chat. Sorry for the extra step, and thanks for your patience!

And a short line to drop as a reply template for anyone who messages asking why checkout failed:

Sorry about that — Facebook/Instagram’s own in-app checkout for Shops was discontinued on their end, not something only you’re seeing. Tell me what you’d like to order and I’ll send a payment link in this chat instead.

Before October 27

Confirm which path your Shop’s orders actually run through, pin the notice above if native checkout was in use, and finish the Commerce setup in 1CS so the first customer who hits the dead button already has somewhere to go. The Facebook and Instagram order-API shutdown itself is Meta’s decision, not something a seller can delay — but how fast chat picks up the slack is not. Sellers already running product sends over Instagram DM are most of the way there already.
